ORIGIN OF THE 9 PALACES
This concept arises from Baguazhang ("BAH-GWA-JONG"), a Chinese martial art based on the I-Ching and characterized by circular walking and spiraling movements.
The 9 numbers are visualized on the ground as seen to the left, where each number is then walked around in a specific sequence while adopting various hand and arm postures. Thenumbers on a straight horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line, will always add up to 15. Because all numbers lead to the same sum (15), this numerical configuration is seen as neutral, sacred, and harmonious in Taoist philosophy. By walking this sacred configuration, the practitioner is said to be able to better realize the continuity of existence, while simultaneously gaining dynamic health.
Grayson has studied Baguazhang for almost ten years and adopted the 9 PALACES OF HEALTH to mimic this line of thinking when guiding his clients towards health and wellness.
